About Us

Garners Antiques is led by Paul Garner, specialising in the design and making of fine furniture, with advisory and brokerage services for art and antiques.

Based in Uppingham, Rutland, the business has been established since 1966. While Garners Antiques has a long history of dealing in art and antiques, the main focus of the business today is the making of fine furniture, produced to order with care, proportion and longevity in mind.

Fine furniture, made with intent

At the heart of the business is the design and making of bespoke and reproduction furniture, built using traditional techniques and high-quality materials. Each piece is made individually, informed by decades of handling original furniture and a practical understanding of how well-made furniture works in real homes.

Work includes faithful reproductions of historic forms as well as bespoke commissions tailored to a client’s space, use and aesthetic. Care is taken with scale, construction and finish, with the aim of producing furniture that is practical, enduring and quietly well made.

Furniture is made to be lived with, maintained and passed on.

Experience you can rely on

Paul Garner brings extensive, hands-on experience across furniture making, sourcing, dealing and the practical handling of valuable objects. This breadth of knowledge underpins the way the business operates, ensuring pieces are not only well made or well chosen, but also handled and placed correctly.

This experience allows clients to work with one person who understands the full life of an object – from design and construction, through to placement, care and long-term use.

Art and antiques – advice and brokerage

Alongside furniture making, Paul continues to work with art, antiques and collectables in an advisory and brokerage capacity.

Rather than operating as a high-volume dealership, this aspect of the business focuses on:

  • Advising clients on existing collections
  • Sourcing specific pieces on request
  • Acting as a broker between buyers and sellers
  • Helping clients place art and antiques within their homes

This approach draws on long-standing relationships, market knowledge and experience, allowing clients to make informed decisions without pressure or unnecessary complexity.

Services that support the work

To support furniture commissions and advisory work, Garners Antiques also offers a small number of practical services, including:

  • Collection and delivery of fine furniture, art and antiques
  • Picture hanging and placement
  • Short-term storage
  • Restoration and conservation services, where appropriate

These services are available locally, nationally and across Europe by arrangement, and are carried out with the same care and attention as the furniture making itself.

Restoration and care

Restoration and conservation services are available where needed, either as part of a wider project or as a standalone service. Work is approached sympathetically, with respect for the integrity, materials and history of each piece.
